Students will apply charcoal and chalk techniques to a composition.

Students will create value, texture, proportion and contrast in a series of compositional studies.

Materials:
5, 12”x 12” (square) sheets of drawing paper.
1 sketching pencil
1 set of graded charcoal
Procedure Step 1
Sketchbook Formative Practice: Create a graded value scale in sketchbook with charcoal/chalk
Spray when completed
Step 2
Choose 5 different squares from your hour’s manila envelopes (See Manders). Only take one at a time. When finished with the first, move on to the second, and so on.
Keep your little squares in your small individual manila envelope
Step 3
Copy / Draw exactly what you see from the little square to your large 12”x12” sheet of paper. Start with drawing the contours of the objects or shapes.
Fill the composition with shaded / blended charcoal and chalk. Pay attention to value and proportion.
