Computer Art Overview

Computer Art 'A' is a beginners computer graphics class. We use graphic programs currently in use by graphic designers and artists--Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. Students apply more sophisticated techniques to create, edit and transform new or existing images. Additional technology and skills are explored to create multimedia artworks in a variety of formats. This course enhances creativity as well as graphic and computer skills.

We also describe, analyze, interpret and evaluate computer-generated arts in its historical, cultural, and social contexts. Students understand a variety of technology in terms of purpose, function and application through knowledge and application of Elements of Art, Principles of Design and creative problem-solving. We explore career options and the sometimes controversial role computer-generated art plays in society.

Most importantly, we will create amazing computer art!

Computer Art 'B' is an intermediate computer graphics class. With an introductory focus on animation and video, we also use graphic programs currently used by graphic designers and artists in the professional fields of work --Photoshop, Illustrator, and After Effects and other Mac software such as iMovie and Photobooth.  Students apply more sophisticated techniques to create, edit and transform new or existing images. Although the majority of the class will be spent learning the "ins and outs" of Illustrator and vector art, additional technology and skills are explored to create multimedia artworks in a variety of formats. This course enhances creativity as well as graphic and computer skills.

Computer Art 'C' is an advanced computer graphics class. This course covers rendering and animation while experimenting with color, composition, lighting, and digital effects.  Self-directed students will create video art and poetic pieces based on expressive or symbolic images and sounds in conjunction with text and music.  Resourceful students will explore and collaborate in media production and class presentations highlighting various documentary, narrative, and experimental genres.  We use graphic programs currently in use by graphic designers and artists in the field --Photoshop, Illustrator. and After Effects and other Mac software such as iMovie and Photobooth.  Students will apply more sophisticated techniques to create, edit and transform new or existing images. This class is designed for students to be self directed and motivated to create a highly unique and original body of work.  Students will learn new techniques and design principles by following video and written tutorials.  There will be class demonstrations from time to time, but the instructor will act as a facilitator and mentor throughout the creative process.
